Paul Noell and I did some birding again this morning at Cylburn
Arboretum in northern Baltimore. It was slower than yesterday for
warblers - only 5 species, with no excursion down the stump dump
trail.
Starting around 10 AM we settled into one or another of the shady,
northwest facing benches to watch the skies. They were totally empty
except for one Sharp-shinned Hawk until about 10:45 when an adult Bald
eagle came through rather low on a SW path. Five minutes later an
immature Bald Eagle came by on the same path. Then one Broadwing.
After a lull we started seeing groups of very high Broadwings up until
1 PM, adding up to about 60 Broadwings, with one kettle of 20 around
11:30. It will be interesting to see what Cromwell Valley, about 10
miles northeast, came up with today.
