I made a brief stop this afternoon at Lakeside ponds in Edgewood. There is
one pond there still worth birding. It is mostly cattails with some nice
sparrow habitat. I was walking slowly and pishing when a female Dickcissel flew
out of the cattails and headed over the buildings. I watched the bird until
it was too far to make out a dot in my binoculars. I really thought it may
land nearby, but it didn't appear to. The bird flew by very close, enough to
get a good look at the face pattern and yellow chest. Oddly enough however,
it didn't give its distinctive buzz flight call when it was within earshot.
Other birds present were 3 Swamp Sparrows, a Yellow Palm Warbler, and
Eastern Phoebe.
