The Neotropic was at Violette's Lock this morning on the usual perch at 8:40 AM for about 30 mins before taking a short flight downstream. dropping out of sight behind a small island.

To be honest I could not make out the pointed shape on the gape, but the gape does give the impression of a narrower projection into the face, unlike that on the Double-cresteds. The front of the bird also looked quite different to the Double-crested - much darker on the lower breast and belly with a fairly abrupt distinction between this and the paler upper breast. The size difference is apparent with the naked eye.

It seems that the bird has been seen only in the afternoon and evening. Have people tried for it earlier in the day and been unsuccessful? or is it only seen during the later hours in the day? Thought this would be good to know for people chasing this weekend.
