While we were waiting for the cormoant to return yesterday, someone reported that a friend had seen the bird from Virginia -- and that person had said that "Seneca Road" (I hope I am recalling this correctly) goes down to the river near the spot, although it sounds as if there may be a short walk up or down to get directly opposite the bird. It was supposed to have been a lot closer to view -- but of course, still in Maryland! The bird on its log is downstream of the golf course though probably viewable with a scope, assuming the golf course would allow access (I believe it is private).
Probably a look at the De Lorme might be in order.
