Bill Ellis and I checked some areas in northern Carroll County and into Pennsylvania looking for Black-capped Chickadees but we found none. We started at Hashawha Environmental Center. Birds here were:

Carolina Chickadee 6
Red-breasted Nuthatch 1
Brown Creeper 2
Winter Wren 1
Golden-crowned Kinglet 3
Hermit Thrush 1
Field Sparrow 10
Song Sparrow 15
Swamp Sparrow 5
White-throated Sparrow 35

Hanover Watershed, MD portion:

Carolina Chickadee 3
GC Kinglet 2

Sheppard-Myers Reservoir PA:

Canada Goose 500
Chinese Goose 2
Carolina Chickadee 1 heard

Long Arm Reservoir PA:

Ruddy Duck 13
Pied-billed Grebe 1
Great Blue Heron 1
Ring-billed Gull 4

We also visited some grassland areas in NW Carroll Co. looking for Horned Lark flocks but found none. We did see a few Pipits on John Shirk Road.

The most interesting bird of the day was a completely leucistic Turkey Vulture seen soaring with a normal bird over the state line from Geeting Road. Yeh, we made sure it wasn't a Snowy Owl.
