The Neotropic Cormorant was seen this morning at about 10:15, below Pennyfield Lock downstream from Milepost 19 on the C&O Canal. Jane and Dennis Coskren found it sitting on a rock in the river, and watched as it flew to feed in the Potomac nearby. When last seen it was swimming near the Virginia bank, slowly working upriver.

Also seen at Violette's Lock: a Peregrine over the river, a small flock of American Wigeon, two Black Ducks, and a Winter Wren (good view--maybe the same one that had been singing during our two unsuccessful cormorant hunts?).
