I led Molly and Peter Ross and Peter Frechtel, some birders from the other side of the great water, into Maryland today--we took a trip to Lilypons and then looked for the Neotropic Cormorant. Starting with the afternoon's cormorant hunt: we went to yesterday's reported spot below Pennyfield, then walked up to a nearby spot where Peter Ross had previously seen it, but had no luck at either. No cormorants of any species, nowhere, nohow.

Our morning at Lilypons, however, was more productive. Sparrows included decent numbers of Songs, White-throateds, Swamps, a few Juncos, plus:
White-crowned Sparrow (1 juvenile and possibly 1 adult)
Lincoln's Sparrow (an uncooperative bird, but a fairly confident ID from several unsatisfying looks)
Fox Sparrow

Non-sparrow action of note:
Wilson's Snipe (3)
Lots of raptors, though no rarities--2 Red-shouldered Hawks, 2 Red-tailed Hawks, and a Sharp-shinned Hawk
Belted Kingfisher (2)
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker
Ruby-crowned Kinglet (3)
Eastern Meadowlark
Rusty Blackbird (at least 15, possibly many more depending on who was in some of the flyover flocks)
