For what it's worth (and I'm inclined to believe it is worth quite a bit), I
sent the url of Mike Burchett's pictures of the empid in Monkton to a friend
in Oregon, and he sent it around to a few friends in OR & WA. I've received
five emails back, and all five believe the bird is a HAMMOND'S. This
includes an OR bander, who is quite familiar with both Hammond's &
"Pacific-slope" Westerns, as well as the inimitable Steve Mlodinow. I can
forward the reasons for these conclusions if anyone is interested.

I can't chase it Friday, but plan to go on Saturday. Hopefully it will
survive these arctic winds that came in this afternoon.

Please post if anyone sees it on Friday.

Good birding,
