Hyacinth and I visited the Monkton Eunoymous vine and saw the Hammond's
flycatcher 4 times (at 10.30, 10.45, 10.55 and 11.05).
The bird was silent and appeared out of nowhere each time. It flew back
forth into the vine before disappearing.
The light was poor. Overall impression was of a small, grayish flycatcher
with pale beige/yellow breast, distinct pale wing bar, small bill and notched
tail. In one glimpse there was a hint of olive green on the folded wings;
the hue varied with the aspect and lighting. The head appeared rounded.
Wonder if it will survive the snow? There are lots of berries left on the
vine.
No other birders present.
Our thanks to all those who posted so concisely on this bird.
