In anticipation of the DC Count tomorrow, I visited a few locations
in the District of Columbia this morning that are sometimes capable
of holding interesting birds. Highlights, but not many:

Georgetown Reservoir:

RING-NECKED DUCK 20
CANVASBACK 3
RUDDY DUCK 10
AMERICAN COOT 1
No gulls other than Herring, Ring-billed and Great Black-backed.

Hains Point:

PIED-BILLED GREBE 1
BUFFLEHEAD 1 male
(presumably LESSER) SCAUP ca. 100 just off Jones Creek Marina
LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL 1 adult on grass near the "Awakening"
statue, with Ring-billeds

Anacostia Park:

KILLDEER 11 on wet grass near the roller skating rink

There is very little evidence of icing in these places, except where
the water is shallow, such as in the small cell at G. Reservoir
closest to the road. The tidal Basin is ice-free but has nothing of
interest in it beyond large numbers of Canada Geese. As usual, there
are quite a few flocks of geese in the fields near the monuments, and
these will repay close checking over the next few weeks for the
presence of Snow Geese or perhaps something rarer.
