This afternoon I did a quick run through Caroline County concentrating
mostly on waterfowl. Tanyard was full of gulls and a quick once through
yeilded one adult Lesser Black-backed Gull. Choptank was fairly barren.
Ruddy Ducks were the only waterfowl on the river. Denton sewage ponds held
many Canada Geese, (4) Buffelheads, (1) Greater Scaup, Ring-necked Ducks,
and Ruddy's. Ridlegy sewage ponds were completely frozen with a few Tundra
Swans sitting on the ice. A quick trip over to Sparks Rd. was a good call
as soon as I got out of the car, the lark flock flew over and I heard what
I thought was a Snow Bunting. The flock landed about 100 yards away from
the car. Intense scanning yeilded no Snow Bunting, that's because it had
landed on the road about fifty feet away. Great looks. Tuckahoe had (2)
Green-winged Teal, (4) Coot, and (1) female Hooded Merg back in amongst the
vegetation. The last pond on Rt. 309 heading west and a few Snow Geese, a
Tundra Swan, and a couple Ring-necks.
