Thanks to Steve Noyes' posting yesterday, I birded Patuxent
Research Refuge South Tract this morning in order to catch a
glimpse of the REDHEAD. I saw an adult male keeping a low
profile in the strong winds among the many RING-NECKED DUCKS
on Cash Lake. Also got some good woodland birds next to the
lake, including YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, HERMIT
THRUSH, and EASTERN PHOEBE. Full report follows.

Checklist diary notes:
Very windy and cold, but sunny, and I found my target bird:
a male Redhead resting on Cash Lake among the Ring-necked
Ducks. The Eastern Phoebe had weak wing bars and was pumping
its tail furiously (no eye ring). The Hermit Thrush also did
its slow tail bob for me. The Hooded Merganser was at quite
a distance on Lake Reddington with the geese.
