After (finally) seeing my life Snowy Owl early this morning at Dulles
Airport, I ran down to Charles County for the rest of the day. My luck
with owls continued as I saw a Barred Owl in my atlas block around dusk in
Doncaster State Forest near the intersection of Rt 6 and Chicamuxen Rd.
About a half-hour later I heard an American Woodcock peenting from the
field at the corner of Liverpool Point Rd and Adams Willet Rd west of
Nanjemoy (unfortunately, just outside my atlas block). At least 6 Bald
Eagles were in the area where Doncaster State Forest crosses Gilroy Rd
south of Doncaster.

Earlier in the day, my best luck was around Cobb Island. Surf Scoters,
Black Scoters, and Long-tailed Ducks could be seen from Morgantown and the
end of Cobb Island Rd. A Common Goldeneye was also seen from the end of
Cobb Island Rd. At nearby Southern Park, I saw a Common Loon, several
Hooded Mergansers, and a Fox Sparrow.

There were a lot of ducks at Smallwood State Park, with several
Canvasbacks and Red-breasted Mergansers among the many scaup, ruddies, and
Bufflehead.
