Mikey Lutmerding and I were birding the eastern shore this weekend, on the
way down friday, we stopped at Blackwater NWR and picked up the 3 American
white pelicans as well as 3 short-eared owls. Here is what we found on
saturday-

Ocean City inlet- Great cormorant, common loon, red-throated loon,
northern gannet, red-breasted merganser, common merganser, American black
duck, brant, bufflehead, long-tailed duck, black scoter, surf scoter,
peregrine falcon (on the water tower), American oystercatcher, sanderling,
ruddy turnstone, great black-backed gull, ring-billed gull, Bonaparte's
gull, herring gull.

Fourth street flats- Common loon, red-throated loon, red-breasted
merganser, hooded merganser, mallard, bufflehead, American black duck,
brant, greatblue heron, American oystercatcher, herring gull, ring-billed
gull, great black-backed gull, lesser black-backed gull*, mourning dove,
rock pigeon, American robin, red-winged blackbird, European starling,
house sparrow. *The lesser black-backed gull was found by Mikey among the
other gulls. We got great views of the bird, and were able to compare it
with the other gulls for size.

West OC ponds- Black-crowned night heron, canvasback, gadwall, northern
pintail, mallard, American black duck, northern shoveller, ruddy duck,
Canada goose, ring-billed gull, great black-backed gull, Carolina wren,
song sparrow.

Eagles nest golf course- Great blue heron, Eurasian wigeon, American
wigeon, greater scaup, gadwall, ring-billed gull, turkey vulture,
yellow-rumped warbler, song sparrow.

We also stopped at Indian river inlet and added a female common eider,
purple sandpiper, and double-crested cormorant.
