The Glaucous Gull reported by Keith Costley was still
on the sunken
pier this morning, easily viewable from the eastern
terminus of Thames St. It did not seem to fly at all
from 8:30 to 10:00 AM. If you go, take a scope for a
wonderful view of this huge gull. Also, check the
tops of nearby sailboat masts for a kestrel that has
also found a home in the wilds of Fells Point.

Based on Sibling and other guides, the gull looks more
to me like a
first winter bird, having a very dark eye and all-dark
end to its bill. Its penchant for sewage outflow
seems appropriate for this disgustingly filthy part of
the harbor. I have smelled sewage near here
repeatedly and attribute its presence to its entry
into a storm water main that I presume lies under
Wolfe St. Hopefully, the many new home and boat
buyers here will push for a cleaner harbor.
