Prompted by a recent post to this list I emailed letters to my state senator and
representative asking them to support the anti-Blackwater development bills (SB
257/HB 1138). I wanted to share the response I just received from MD Senator
Paul Pinsky (District 22), who has always been a strong supporter of the
environment. I also received a similar positive response from my state
Representative, Tawanna Gaines (Hyattsville).

Senator Pinsky's reply:

Dear Ms. Kantrowitz,

Thank you for contacting me regarding Senate Bill 257. This legislation
would have significant impact on saving a national wildlife refuge from
development. I believe that development is important; however, it must be
appropriate, responsible, and smart. I plan to support this legislation
with modifications, in hopes of saving resources conservation areas and
wildlife refuges from dangerous development.

Again, I appreciate your input and support. Please feel free to contact me
in the future regarding this or any other issue.

Sincerely,

Senator Paul G. Pinsky
District 22
