I finally got out on the last day of February, to take a quick
walk around the Tidal Basin. Flocks of American Robins are in
all the hollies surrounding the basin. At the paddle-boat
concession were several dozen Ring-billed Gulls, about 10
Greater Black-backed Gulls, and a couple of Herring Gulls.
Near the FDR Memorial was a flock of a few dozen Lesser
Scaup, along with a pair of American Wigeon and a pair of
Hooded Mergansers.
At the Hirshhorn Sculpture Garden, the two male Common
Grackles that showed up last week are still there. Now they
are wondering where all the grackles are.
