While driving to and waiting for the start of our Harford Bird Club woodcock
viewing last night, we saw a huge flock of blackbirds flying in a
west-southwesterly direction in Aberdeen. It was a large stream of birds
that continued for about 30 minutes, like a big black tube in the air. I
can't begin to estimate how many thousands of birds were there. The flock
was visible from about 5:20 until 5:50 or so.

For those of you familiar with the Aberdeen area, the "tube" passed over the
Golden Corral on US 40, then the Wal Mart parking lot, and then over the APG
golf course, heading in the direction of the APG airfield.

We didn't have a lot of luck with the woodcocks. We heard one or more
shortly after we got to our viewing site in Perryman, and we saw 1 or 2 fly
low in front of us. We did see and hear 2 killdeer, and several groups
totalling maybe 200 Canada Geese flew over head. The overcast conditions
made it darker than expected, so maybe the woodcocks were there, but we
couldn't see them.
