The weather being so delightful, I decided to fish for Yellow Perch in the
Upper Chester River south of the Rt. 301 bridge. Not only was the fishing
good, the birds seemed almost overactive most of the afternoon. I heard
a Pilliated Woodpecker call right after I baited up about 12:30. Then, it
landed in a tree about 15 feet from me. These are rare in Kent County.
Then a pair of Belted Kingfishers began chasing each other up and down the
river. RT hawks flew over. My first E. Pheobie of the year began an hour
of constant singing. The usual suspects were there also; but moving around
and calling more than usual. E. Bluebird, Wood Duck,Sharp-shinned Hawk,R C
Kinglets, mucho A. Robins, the other common woodpeckers. etc., were moving
up and down the river. On the way out I heard two Barred Owls arguing with
each other in broad daylight. I then saw one go into a tree hole which I
believe is its nest tree. Things seemed to calm down some about 4 PM.
Great day!!! Floyd Parks Chestertown, Md.
