Birds were on the move this morning at the Arboretum. I think I saw the
same group of TUNDRA SWANS reported by Fred Fallon earlier. (These
passed high overhead flying north at about 8:30.) I also saw a second
group of about 50 shortly after. Two Hooded Mergansers were still on the
lake where they were last week. The RED-HEADED WOODPECKER is still in
more or less the same area; today I saw it in a tree across the road
from the columns parking lot. Singing Phoebes were all over the place.
There were also singing PINE WARBLERS both at Hickey Hill and in the
state tree grove. RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH was also on Hickey Hill; a few
FOX SPARROWS were near the creek where it crosses Beechwood Road.
One Eastern Screech Owl called repeatedly from an undisclosed location.
(This was the pinging call rather than the scream.)

Good birding,
