Hi Paul:

I could write 10 pages on these topics, literally ... I do a lot of things
with sequence numbers, and abbreviations, in my database work for MD/DC
Records Committee. However, my lists are somewhat specialized and tailored
to the committee's needs and don't readily lend themselves to exactly what
you are looking for.

However, I've provided some comments embedded in your message, below ...

Wild Turkey ... USFWS bands are not used for game birds. However, see this
page ...

The above PWRC page also provides "AOU numbers" for the gallinacious birds.
Maybe this provides what you need?

The AOU Checklist (from whence the ABA and other North American
organizations takes taxonomy direction) stopped issuing/publishing AOU
numbers (i.e., species numbers) with the 7th Edition of the AOU Checklist
in 1998.

However, at this page, you can download a tab-delimited flat file of names
and 4-letter codes and sequentially number them to create an index list ...

These pages, below, provide everything you (n)ever wanted to know about
4-letter (and 6-letter) codes, but it does not provide a complete set of
indices ...

I'm not sure if this product provides sequence numbers or not ...

Hope this helps.

Good luck.
