For the 4th straight year an adult Red-shouldered Hawk was on the same nest where Cabin John Creek runs into the Potomac, about Mile 7.5. It had a red-something on the tip of its beak...perhaps from food.

As I was watching it, an adult Bald Eagle soared overhead. Then there was a roar coming from the river, like a bunch of kids at a b-ball tournament. When I got there, I found a dozen TUNDRA SWANS in mid-river. Later, they were joined by another near-two dozen. They were backlit by the sun, with the water sparkling...beautiful!

The days birds included:

Great Blue Heron
Tundra Swan (32)
Canada Goose (31)
Mallard (12)
Ring-necked Duck (32)
Wood Duck (2 -m/f...FOY)
Common Meranser (male, in brilliant alternate plumage)
Ring-billed Gull (2)
Herring Gull
Turkey Vulture
Red-shouldered Hawk (3 - another pair were up by Lockhouse 8, one wi food)
Red-bellied Woodpecker (7)
Downy Woodpecker (6)
Hairly Woodpecker
Pileated Woodpecker
No. Flicker
Belted Kingfisher
American Crow (2)
American Robin (8)
Eastern Bluebird (1-male)
Eastern Phoebe (3 -- 2 engaged in chasing)
Mourning Dove
No. Cardinal (6)
Tufted Titmouse (2)
Carolina Chickadee (5)
Carolina Wren (2)
White-breasted Nuthach (3)
European Starling (50)
Yellow-rumped Warbler (3)
American Goldfinch (2)

Good birding,
