I've started doing occasional walks in the park to get a sense for what's going on before migration picks up in earnest. Haven't had much to report until today, when a pair of YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKERS was a nice treat. There are fairly extensive sapsucker holes on some trees in the park, suggesting they may sometimes winter in the neighborhood, but it's probably too late to confirm that now (I assume that by now these could be migrants).

Appreciated Ted taking the time to state his case. Some issues of Birding are more useful to me than others, and there's often much in there that's over my head--but that's also why I've learned a lot from it. As a semi-young birder fairly new to the ABA, I've generally felt Birding to be very well-done and have greatly enjoyed it.
