surf scoters at North Beach, Calvert County:


Sunday between 2-4 pm, temperature was in the 50's, the Chesapeake Bay was almost still between North Beach. and Chesapeake beaches.

Winter holdovers were sighted - the usual scatered 30-50 bufflehead, a couple of common loons, 20 some scaup, 10 coots one yellow striped horned grebe. But there appeared a scattering of white-winged scoters say 20 some.  Sometimes scoters by the hundreds come by here and go. Their peeping calls sounds like tree frogs.
