After hearing from Anna Urcioloa last week that one of my prothonotary nest
boxes was in shambles at Hughes Hollow, I went out there this PM. I was
quite upset to find both boxes were destroyed by vandalism, bashed apart, with
the pieces floating in the water..

In the fifteen years that I have maintained a prothonotary next box "trail,"
I have never found any vandalism. All the other boxes are on NPS land, so
this might account for the difference. In any case, I will not be replacing
the boxes at HH.

I would like to pinpoint when the vandalism occurred, so if anyone remembers
the status of the two boxes at HH, I would appreciate hearing off line. One
was just past the gate in the empoundment on the left, the other in the
second empoundment on the right.
