Hi all just a quick report that Yesterday Afternoon 4 - 13 - 06 after
work I went to Wye Isand to do a quick trip for some altlas birds and
others . From the bridge I counted 24 D.C. Cormorants. Once on the
Island Passed the houses and near a narrow pine plantation a smaller quick
Raptor flew from the pines chasing a larger Red tailed Hawk. The Red
Tailed went across and down the road tword and in some hardwood trees.
The smaller Raptor landed on a power pole when I put my Bins on it I
could see it was a Cooper Hawks . Then it flew back into those pines again
I confrimed one breeding here a couple of years ago looks like it still is
.
Latter when Walking I came across a old building about 6 ft by 10
feet roof nearly all fell in but attached on one side and back wall gone
also most of one side wall gone hidden in heavy brush. I thought
what the heck check it out all my vulture sightings in my Atlas blocks
up to this point are just obsevered but did not think there would be
anything there due to the condition of the site and where it was. When
in I could see and old gas kitchen stove laying on its side part of the
roof was covering it. Then I heard a rustle of leaves and saw a
dark form run out the front door out the corner of my eye but had no idea
what it was . Then it Jumped up into a nearby tree reveling itself to be
a Black Vulture After carefull checking [ Thinking eggs ] finding
none looked closer at the above mentioned nook behind the gas stove
blinking back at me were 2 downy light brown colored
vultrue chicks . I did not get to close But did snap a couple of
quick Camera shots. In there no more than 3 to 4 minutes left the
Area quickly and no plans to go back again I do no not want to disrupte
the birds anymore These are the first vultrue chick of any species I
have seen . Other birds

Wood Duck 1
Mallard 2
Osprey 5
Laughing gull
Horned Larks
Red bellied Woodpecker
