Between 2 and 2:30, 11 Broad-winged Hawks flew over the 45th St hawk
watch. The first group of 6 were joined by 4 DC Cormorants (yes, I took a
long look).
Normally, the Broad-wings would have been the highlight of the day, but
not today since yard birds trump migrants. In the morning, a long awaited
Barn Swallow (#58) raced low up 45th St. This was a few minutes after
seeing my first Chimney Swifts of the year. This afternoon, a cute little
Winter Wren (#59) hopped up on the fence in the backyard and has spent the
last hour in the neighbor's enclosed yard.
Other decent sightings from the yard today were a Yellow-rumped Warbler, a
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, a migrating Sharp-shinned Hawk, and a Cooper's Hawk
chasing a starling.
