Hi all --

Started out at Hughes Hollow this morning, a bit late but it was cloudy Not much activity, best bird was a LEAST BITTERN which we heard call twice only. Also seen were 3 Green Herons. At the intersection of Hughes and River Roads, 1 Yellowthroat heard and 1 singing Prairie Warbler seen well, also singing Field Sparrows.

At Riley's Lock (Seneca), 2 Phoebes, 2 Palm Warblers, 1 Prothonotary dueling with Tree Swallows for a nest box (both ignoring the second near-by box), 1 Parula herad only, 1 Louisiana Waterthrush, 1 gorgeous male Purple Finch, a Barred Owl and a number of Myrtle Warblers, as well as first Rough-winged Swallows (for us) of the spring.

At Violette's Locks, 1 Louisiana Waterthrush just as you turn in from River Rd., at the canal several Phoebes, heard Rusty Blackbird (1-2), more Myrtles and on the river, two Horned Grebes and a Pied-bill Grebe. There was also another small grebe almost over on the Virginia shore which *could* have been the Eared, but not well enough seen. Also a few Caspian terns flying about over the breaks.
