Hi everyone,
 
Last evening (Thursday April 27) I saw a Black-Crowned Night  Heron on the 
island closest to the Maryland shore, in the Potomac just  below where the 
fishladder empties into the river just below Great Falls.   This island is adjacent 
to "Catfish Hole" and "Sandy Beach" and immediately  opposite where the 
towpath threads a fine line between the canal and the  river.  Was somewhat 
surprised to see it - it seems a bit early to see a  BCNH in that location (I usually 
expect them later in May).
