An exotic-looking bird showed up at my pond just now -- gray with a longish
bill and what looked like a black and white head. I did a double-take and
realized it was actually a catbird (first of the season) with large white
patches on its cheeks plus a white streak through its dark cap. It was
accompanied by a normal-plumaged bird. Usually several pairs of catbirds
nest in my yard each summer, but I've never seen this individual before.
Still no warblers here other than some snazzy yellow-rumps in breeding
plumage.
