Rob Hilton & I worked the Anacostia River this morning, and found some
decent birds:
Hains Point -
Nothing, not even any Arctic Terns, let alone Anhingas
Anacostia River Park -
2 subadult SURF SCOTERS near the second mudflat (when coming up the
river)
Kenilworth Park -
1 VESPER SPARROW in the short grass field, with many SAVANNAHS and 3
FIELDS
45 AMERICAN PIPITS, 2 flocks flying over
4 HORNED LARKS, flushed from short grass
1 NORTHER HARRIER
1 MERLIN
1 BARRED OWL, calling from woods between KAG and the school
1 MARSH WREN, calling from the KAG marshes
10 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, on the water at KAG
4 COMMON LOONS, flying downriver
1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, flyover
Kenilworth Aquatic Garden (KAG)
1 SOLITARY SANDPIPER
Not a whole lot of Neotropic passerines, just YELLOW and YELLOW-RUMPED
WARBLERS plus COMMON YELLOWTHROATS at KAG.
Probably missed a few other birds of note.
Good birding,
