The Baltimore Bird Club walk in the Granite Area of Patapsco Valley State
Park was very nice. The overcast skies did not release the rain until the
six participates had returned to the shelter in their cars. Just before 7:30
three Osprey flew over The Woodstock Inn and continued their flight South
(!?!). Most of the walk was quiet and we enjoyed the beauty of Granite as
the effects of the last nights rain and Spring awakened the forest.
We heard the songs of a lone House Wren, several Ruby-crowned Kinglets,
Louisiana Waterthrush, Northern Parula, Myrtle and Pine Warbler. The
warblers that were encountered were cooperative, and we found them with a
little patience and teamwork. Other highlights included the White-eyed Vireo
singing, the Purple Finch (I hope someone else saw it), the reliable
sighting of the Pileated Woodpeckers.
I really enjoyed the company, the rhythmic sloshing of sound of six birders
in the mud ...and the birds. Thank you you joining me I know your out
