The park has been steadily interesting (at least to me) this past week, without as many of the lulls I remember from last year. Today's highlight was another sighting of a female RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH (likely the same one as a few days ago?). Not in a pine tree this time, and I wouldn't have noticed if she hadn't been calling.
New arrivals today included a flyby male BALTIMORE ORIOLE and, at long last, my first two catbirds of the spring (a pair moving through together).
Others of note were a lone male PURPLE FINCH, the same Cedar Waxwing flock as yesterday, and a Blue-headed Vireo. Tons of Yellow-rumps; no other warblers. Chipping Sparrow numbers were way down today.
And last: yesterday afternoon my first RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD of the year (a nice bright male) paid a visit to the red trumpet honeysuckle on my fence and pestered the other birds in the yard.
