Saw a male wood duck and a female hooded merganser in a small pond at
Greencastle Lakes on Sunday - they were not "together", but is it
strange to have singles like that? We get precious few ducks other than
mallards. The wood duck at times lay on the "beach" beside 2 Canada
geese. There were also 2 male mallards in the water.
A pair of green herons flew past, and hopefully will nest as they did
last year in an overhanging branch. Also saw great blue heron.
Welcomed arrivals: Baltimore Oriole, Orchard Oriole, wood thrush, barn
swallows, house wrens, catbirds, and some warblers I couldn't see. No
juncos.
