This weekend we had what I believe was a white-throated sparrow in our
Towson area backyard with a totally white head, white to the extent that a
red-headed woodpecker’s head is red. I based my identification on the
appearance of the body, which was normal for a white-throated except for a
few white blotches on the wings, and a very distinct yellow lore spot in
front of the eyes. The individual kept appearing under our feeder and each
time I couldn’t help picking up the binoculars. It was quite striking. |
