Yesterday morning I birded at Rock Cr Park before work, hoping to find a
Blue-headed Vireo and new warblers. I addition to 7 warbler species
(Myrtles-at least 50+/all over!; Ovenbird-3; Black-th. Green-4; Worm-
eating-1; Pine-1; Parula-3; B&W-1), I observed 2 Red-eyed Vireos but no
Blue-Headeds, and my first house wrens of the season (a pair). I was
surprised to find a RED-BREASTED nuthatch (calling from behind the horse
barn, by the riding ring).
This morning I stopped at the PG landfill briefly and looked at the pond
by the recycle pad, and also another storm water management area that is
not visible from there - and which is closed to the public. I have
permission to go there for Atlasing. There were only 4 Canada geese at
the recycle pad pond, and two lesser yellowlegs. At the other area, which
was semi-flooded, I found 4 Least Sandpipers, 15 Lesser Yellowlegs, 6
Greater Yellowlegs, 1 Killdeer, 10 Pectoral Sandpipers, 7 Great Egrets, 2
Snowy Egrets, 6 Great Blue Herons, 4 Canada Geese and 2 Green-W Teal.
Best of all was a COMMON MOORHEN in breeding plumage!
