Some birds of note today along the Paint Branch trail:
(+ indicates not reported in last week or so)
+ Hairy Woodpecker - 1 (above trail between golf course pond and 193)
+ Brown Thrasher - 1 (initially on the trail, near the top of the
golf course)
White-Eyed Vireo - 1 (North tract, had two yesterday on opposite
sides of trail, same area, though)
Red-Eyed Vireo - 4+ (Common in Metzerot forest, but had one at top
of trail this morning as well)
Tree Swallow - 1 (Is it possible that tree swallows would nest
in the top of a 6' tall *uncapped* 3" in
diameter metal fence post? It was for almost
a minute repeatedly reaching down into it)
Northern Rough-winged Swallow - 2 (by stream just below metzerrot forest,
near where Derek had the Worm-eating Warbler
yesterday, which I was able to hear and see in
silhouette while it sang, but not get a good
clean look at, doh!)
Eastern Kingbird - 1 (over golf course pond)
+ HOUSE WREN - 1 (new trail bird for me, by THE isolated tree
just below second bridge)
Yellow-Rumped Warbler - 2
Northern Parula - 2 (one at top of trail, seen, other heard near campus)
Common Yellowthroat - 4+ (most heard, one singing in plain view)
+ Chipping Sparrow - 1 (good look, just around corner above swamp)
Orchard Oriole - 1 (imm. male, below swamp)
Baltimore Oriole - 1-2 (male, one alongside, other below swamp, may
be same bird)
(Probable Male Purple Finch as well, just around corner, above swamp)
White-Tailed Hawk - 0 (hopefully someone in the area will see it!)
Good birding all,
Ryan Farrell
