Hey everyone, on this beautiful Maryland Day (university
celebration---come visit!) I tallied 59 identified species
to set a personal record for the Paint Branch Stream Valley
Park path. New year birds: CHIMNEY SWIFT, RUBY-THROATED
HUMMINGBIRD, HOUSE WREN, GRAY CATBIRD, OVENBIRD, NORTHERN
WATERTHRUSH, YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT, and SCARLET TANAGER.
Noticeably absent: Eastern Phoebe. Other good birds for the
day included OSPREY, AMERICAN KESTREL, SOLITARY SANDPIPER,
PILEATED WOODPECKER, EASTERN KINGBIRD, WINTER WREN, BROWN
THRASHER, CEDAR WAXWING, ORCHARD ORIOLE, and BALTIMORE
ORIOLE. Wow! Full eBird report below:

Checklist diary notes:
Probably a record day for me on the path. Cool, sunny, light
breeze. Many new year birds: Chimney Swift, Ruby-throated
Hummingbird, House Wren, Gray Catbird (mimic trifecta),
Ovenbird (great looks), Northern Waterthrush,
Yellow-breasted Chat (there may have been 2), and Scarlet
Tanager (male, singing high in the canopy -- took a long
time to see him). Surprising, no phoebes today. There may
have been a second Great Blue Heron. One gull/tern seen
distantly (so -- 60 species today!).
