Dear All
Spring is upon us and the gallant few who dodged freezing conditions and
large raindrops in the last few eeks were suddenly joined by a blossoming
of birding colleagues. And sensible they all were too as this is the first
time I've seen real birds in the park this spring.
A colleague and I worked the 'Yard and the area around the Nature Centre
with the following:
Great Horned Owl 1 (just below the horse riding centre, seen flying off
after being mobbed by Robins)
Orchard Oriole 1
Baltimore Oriole 6
Blue-winged Warbler 1 (in the yard, singing)
Black-throated Green Warbler 4
Yellow-rumped Warbler 40
Palm Warbler 1
Black & White Warbler 2
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 1
Hermit Thrush 1
Wood Thrush 2 heard, 1 seen
Indigo Bunting 1
House Wren 3
Swamp Sparrow 3
White-throated Sparrow 50 plus
Ruby-throated Hummingbird 3
We met Wallace who mentioned having seen Blackburnian Warbler by the Nature
Centre yesterday and were delighted when a very helpful birder tracked down
a singing bird which showed really well - what a great bird. A second
Blackburnian was singing nearby and also a Cape May was heard but not seen.
Lovely morning to be out.
Cheers
Gary Allport
