I took part in the monthly Prince Georges Audubon Society
bird walk at Fran Uhler Natural Area this morning -- a great
day and some nice birds.
Highlights included: PRAIRIE WARBLER, PROTHONOTARY WARBLER,
and HOODED WARBLER (all seen by most of us; 13 warbler
species overall, including un-ID'd waterthrush); good looks
at ORCHARD ORIOLE, GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER, VEERY, INDIGO
BUNTING, BLUE GROSBEAK, and YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO; and
surprise appearances by BROWN CREEPER (seen) and BARRED OWL
(heard).
Highlight birds observed by others: SUMMER TANAGER (seen)
and YELLOW-THROATED VIREO (heard), perhaps more.

Checklist diary notes:
This was the PGAS monthly visit to Fran Uhler. Partly
cloudy, early mist, light breeze later. I started off solo,
then was joined by a dozen or so birders, finishing as a
group of 4. First-of-year birds: Prairie Warbler (nice view,
but distant), Laughing Gull (several fly-over groups),
Prothonotary Warbler (great looks), and Hooded Warbler
(heard, and distant looks at a likely female). Good looks at
the Veery. Eastern Wood-Pewee was seen and later heard. The
creeper and owl were pleasant surprises. Two waterthrushes
were glimpsed but I wasn't able to make a solid ID. There
was some difficulty with the trilling birds: Pine Warbler
was heard early on---in pines---and was later seen by
others; may have heard Worm-eating Warbler; a Chipping
Sparrow was seen by someone else and may have been heard as
well. May have heard American Redstart and possibly a rail
(a sound like clicking dice that I dismissed as an insect
but now I'm not so sure). Birds observed by others but not
by me: Summer Tanager, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Solitary
Sandpiper, and Yellow-throated Vireo. Also saw 4
White-tailed Deer.
