I spent a little under 2 hrs first thing this morning at Rock Creek. Wished I could've stayed longer since a lot of stuff came in last night and it was one of those mornings where anything could turn up, but you take what you can get.

The southerly winds blew in some birds I have not seen yet this year (in caps), including BLACKPOLL (1 at Nature Center, 1 at stables) and WILSON's (male at Maintenance Yard) WARBLERS. The vines at the Yard were particularly good with an ORANGE-CROWNED popping into feed alongside a Nashville; odd to see Orange-crowned on the same day as a Blackpoll. A male Blackburnian also put in an appearance there, as did several Chestnut-sided. Earlier on at the ridge a number of us got on a nice bright male Cape May Warbler. I heard but did not see a number of BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLERS. Other warblers were Parula, Ovenbird (nice views of one), Worm-eating, Blue-winged (heard only), Black-throated Green, Myrtle, Magnolia, Redstart and Black-and-White.

A bit more diversity on thrushes, with a VEERY at the Nature Center, but that was all.

Despite this movement there still seem to be few Parula and Yellowthroat there - presumably they are just a bit late this year?

  Good birding
