Went for a hike today around noon and heard many birds singing.
Unfortunately I can't tell you what they were as my ID skills are in their
infant stage.. BUT the species I SAW mostly could have been seen by me by
just sitting on my couch and watching my feeders. 2 Carolina Wrens, a
Cardinal, Catbird. Up high several turkey vultures wheeling (to clarify,
they do NOT come to my feeders!). One unidentified LBJ hopping about in
the bushes.. brown with speckles and then was gone

My big thrill was when we were sitting in the opening by the schoolhouse
and heard a woodpecker drumming. I had hoped to see a Pileated and I did
get a quick glimpse before he flew over us and off. I heard him (her?)
call several times but did not see it again. That was the reason we had
picked this hike in hopes of seeing one. Only the second time I've seen
one. So feel very lucky today

Also some other creature was calling but it also is as yet unidentified.

In any case, a glorious day to be out wandering around in the woods.
