Hi Everyone,

My girlfriend Becky and I had a nice evening hiking around Middle Patuxent Environmental Area in Howard Co. yesterday (5/10). Our best birds were one GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH and two KENTUCKY WARBLERs, both firsts of the year for us. Other noteworthy species included the following:

Solitary Sandpiper--1 along river
Barred Owls--2 engaged in a short duet
Acadian Flycatchers--3
Eastern Phoebe--1
Great Crested Flycatcher--1
Northern Rough-winged Swallows--4 along river as usual, almost certainly nesting
Blue-gray Gnatcatchers ~20
Wood Thrushes--30+; non-stop singing in the woods
VEERIES--2
Yellow-throated Vireos--5
Red-eyed Vireos ~10
Northern Parulas ~8
Black-and-white Warbler--1
Ovenbirds--8
Common Yellowthroats--6
Scarlet Tanagers ~8
Indigo Buntings--30+ migrants singing from high in the treetops; several in transitional plumage

I also had 3 BOBOLINKs fly over as I walked into work this morning (5/11) in Linthicum Heights (northern Anne Arundel Co.). I was down in Georgia last week and had many large flocks heading our way. When I left my hotel in Georgia at 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, there was MAJOR night flight activity with constant Bobolink "bink" notes overhead. I'll bet we start seeing greater numbers here any day now.

Have a great week!

Bill

p.s. For anyone interested, I've posted three new pages of photos from my Georgia trip at <http://www.billhubick.com/new_set.html>.
