An outstanding morning at Ft. Bayard, and certainly the best I've ever had for warblers. 32 total species and 9 warblers in under an hour's work. Started off the walk with a singing WARBLING VIREO, right on schedule--my only other sighting in the park was last May 12.
But the real story today was warbler diversity:
HOODED (park-first)
BLACKBURNIAN
Yellow (female)
Chestnut-sided (2)
Magnolia (my first of the year, at long last)
Black-throated Blue
Black-throated Green (female)
Yellow-rumped (2)
Black-and-white (2, maybe three, male and female)
Also of note today:
Indigo Bunting (park-first, female)
FIVE Scarlet Tanagers! (2 male, 3 female)
Baltimore Oriole
Cedar Waxwing (just 1 flyover)
Swainson's Thrust (my first of the year)
Wow, it almost seems like a shame to be leaving town to bird in the mountains for the next few days. Almost.
