Took an early morning drive through Patton Turf Farm (Mo Co) hoping
yesterday's rain would produce some wet areas for shorebirds.
Unfortunately, the fog made viewing very difficult. Only birds of note
were Solitary SP and 3 Grasshopper Sparrows. In wooded areas between
turf fields heard following warblers: BTGreen, BTBlue, Magnolia (seen as
well), Chestnut-sided, Am. Redstart, Northern Parula and Common
Yellowthroat.

My attempts to record night migrants have met with some difficulties the
past few weeks. My minidisc recorder went on the fritz around 4/26, so
I lost some recording nights while waiting for a replacement. In April,
I was recording from back of my house because it blocked some of the
noise from I-270. I now have to record from the front (I-270) side
because one neighbor has a noisy AC unit and another neighbor's hot tub
pump "hums" at the same frequency as Wood Thrush and Veery calls.
Background noise from I-270 is not as bad as I thought it would be,
although the same neighbor with the hot tub also has some wind chimes,
so I have to sneak over and slip a rubber band around them (the chimes)
for the night. I hope thats not an ABA ethics violation.

I did record from 12 am to dawn on both 5-10 and 5-11. Picked up 154
calls on 5-10 and 116 calls on 5-11 with the majority on each night
coming from thrushes. I have pretty good spectrograms for Wood and
Swainson's Thrush, Veery, Indigo Bunting, Common Yellowthroat and
Killdeer flight calls.
