Hi Folks,

While eating a late afternoon meal outside in our Ferndale (AA Co.) yard
viewing a pair of Turkey Vultures aloft in the light breeze, Elaine and I
watched a pair of COMMON NIGHTHAWKs slowly work there way northward over our
yard, then out of sight--first for the year for us. Later, just as twilight
began, we got a new yard bird as an adult BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERON flew
east over the property. Other new birds for the season this week have been
a GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER paying a brief visit in our trees on 8 May, our
first MAGNOLIA WARBLER on the same date, and staying for three days; our
yard's first ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKs on 10 May, two males and a female, with
one of the males visiting our feeders; and our first BALTIMORE ORIOLE on 10
May, a male that has visited one of our dead snags for three days now.
Other warblers dropping in this week have been AM. REDSTART,
BLACK-AND-WHITE, YELLOW-RUMPED, BLACK-THROATED BLUE, BLACK-THROATED GREEN,
CHESTNUT-SIDED, and BLACKPOLL this morning. The yard year list now stands
at 83 species.

Good luck to all who are going to be out counting tomorrow. I look forward
to the evening posts of interesting finds.
