Good morning,

Kenilworth Park hosted four BOBOLINKS, a singing FIELD
SPARROW, a WHITE-EYED VIREO (my first anywhere this
spring), a SAVANNAH SPARROW, a NORTHERN PARULA, no
chats, no meadowlarks. A couple of SPOTTED and one
SOLITARY SANDPIPERS were viewed from the park but in
the aquatic gardens. Flyovers included a bunch of
peeps, two LITTLE BLUE HERONS (one adult, one
immature) flying upriver together, and the nicest
surprise of all, a HORNED LARK seen and heard flying
more or less over the road through the park, heading
toward the back. This is over a month into Atlas safe
dates and becomes bird number 100 for the Washington
East SW block, a block that is essentially entirely in
the District (certainly the parts I've visited are in
DC). I believe this is the first Horned Lark I've
seen in DC in May.

Paul Pisano, Lisa Shannon, and I then adjourned to
Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, where we found two
SEMIPALMATED and a handful of LEAST SANDPIPERS
foraging on the flooded dykes along side Spotted
Sandpipers. A PROTHONOTARY WARBLER sang nearby, and
we saw one BELTED KINGFISHER.
