Hello all.

Despite threatening weather, a total of eight of us walked Fort Smallwood 
this morning. The winds on the penninsula hurt the birding, but quite a few 
notable species showed themselves anyway.

Totals:

Double-created Cormorant: 20+  Flyover and on the Patapsco
Great Blue Heron: 2
Little Blue Heron: 1
Snowy Egret: 2   Getting tossed in the wind gusts
Cattle Egret: 1 
Black-crowned Night Heron: 1
Mute Swan: 1 adult, 3 young
Canada Goose: 4
Mallard: 8
Ring-billed Gull: 1
Herring Gull: 15+
Least Tern: 2  Pond area
Great Black-backed Gull: 1   Very close flyover
Bald Eagle: 1  2nd year bird harrassing an Osprey
Osprey: 6
Killdeer: 2
American Crow: 5
Fish Crow: 2
Blue Jay: 10+
Chimney Swift: 2
Red-bellied Woodpecker: 2
Northern Flicker: 4
Downy Woodpecker: 1
Hairy Woodpecker: 1

Brown Thrasher: 4  Three seen at once, two of which were seen copulating

N. Rough-winged Swallow: 2  On nest in front wall of the Artillery Battery

Acadian Flycatcher: 1
Empid. sp.: 1  Almost certainly a "Traill's" species, but lighting and 
angle problems as well as no vocalization prevented identification
