A bit after I moved to Dameron (199), Patty Craig told me that our road
always had Chuck Wills Widows. About 2 weeks ago something told me to get out to
the road & listen for chucks. I had not yet stopped the car when I heard my
first ever anywhere near our place. The next night I heard him from our yard. Wed.
evening after some unproductive owling in my atlas block, the Chuck was right
along the road as we came home. Unfortulnately, rather than flying out to
catch insects in the headlights, he flew back into the woods. Needless to say,
I'm delighted to have him in the neighborhood. Can't say the same for the black
feral cat.
