My understanding is that people with a certain gene have a very serious  
reaction to the vaccine, and that's why it is no longer being used. A doctor at  
Hopkins told me that if I had that gene (he rattled off its designation, but I  
don't remember), the vaccine would "put me in a wheelchair". People  end up 
with something like rheumatoid arthritis.
